Wispr Flow alternative for iPhone

Wispr Flow is a polished voice app with a big following, and its AI editing is good. On iPhone it is cloud only, the free tier has a weekly word limit, and Pro is $15 a month. If you want dictation that can stay on your phone or hardware you control, with no word limit, Diction is built for that.

Diction is a full keyboard for iPhone, written from the ground up, with voice built in. Tap the mic above the keys in any app, speak, and clean text lands at your cursor. You choose where your voice is turned into text: on your iPhone, on your server, or on Diction Cloud.

Where Diction is the better pick

  • No word limit for free. On-device and self-hosted have no weekly cap, no account and no trial clock.
  • Your voice, your hardware. Dictate offline on the phone, or on a server you run. Audio is never stored in any mode.
  • You self-host. Point Diction at any OpenAI-compatible speech server, Whisper included, and any LLM you run, Ollama included, for Writing Tools. Free.
  • A real keyboard. Type and dictate in one keyboard, with autocorrect and suggestions computed on the phone.
  • Price. Diction Cloud is $5.99 a month, less than half of Flow Pro.
